  • Konami Issues an Apology and Explains their Statement ‘Mobile First’ Future

Konami has made a lot of decisions recently which left the gaming world wondering about their future and of those games that they publish, Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill being the more pressing ones.

Recently the issued a statement saying that they will target mobile gaming more which put many people questioning exactly what they were planning. With the split between Konami and Kojima, also cancellation of Silent Hills, Konami’s future didn’t seem to certain.

However it seems that the situation might have been a bit misleading. In a statement to IGN, a Konami representative said,

“We are aware that the conjecture surrounding our recent changes has prompted a great deal of anxiety, for which we apologise. The Metal Gear and Silent Hill series, both beloved by countless fans around the globe, are also extremely important to Konami.”

“We have nurtured them with care over many years since their inception, and will continue to produce products for both franchises, but we are not currently at a stage where we can announce the path these future titles will take.”

As for what they plan in the near future, Konami President and Representative Director Hideki Hayakawa said to Nikkei,

“Konami’s idea of Mobile First is not at all to focus purely on mobile games.”

“Our aim is to continue to build up a comprehensive portfolio of console, arcade, and card game titles for each IP while also making the best possible use of the mobile devices that accompany our customers in their daily life, thus expanding the limits of entertainment and appealing to more and more customers,” Hayakawa said.

“Japan is our primary market for mobile content, [as] the Japanese market is populated with consumers who are extremely particular and discerning, and it is this environment that has helped us polish game design quality to such a high level.”

Explaining the situation regarding MGS V and Hideo Kojima, Hayakawa said,

“Until now, in addition to game development duties, our creators were handling a wide range of responsibilities including managerial roles; we have changed our approach to instead have managerial staff thoroughly focus on strategy and how their individual skills can be best applied, with that strategy then being executed together with the creative staff.”

Guess this is what it meant when rumors suggested Hideo Kojima was “fired”. Guess the extent of his role in Konami was reduced due to their new “unification” plan. Wonder what it means for Hideo Kojima going in the future, as well as the MGS series.

  • Kojima Leaves Konami Because of "Power Struggles"

There has been news regarding the situation between Kojima and Konami. But Hideo Kojima has said that metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be the last official entry to the series. He has said this many a times but this time maybe he really means it.

There seems to be quite a drama between Kojima Productions and the owning Publisher, Konami. According to inside source that told GameSpot, that senior staff at the developer has been restricted access to corporate internet, emails and even phones.

Even some "key developers at the studio," including Kojima himself, will have limited opportunities to help promote the game. This "Power struggles" are resulting in drastic changes and the source claims that once MGSV is done, the management will be gone:

"After we finish MGSV, Mr. Kojima and upper management will leave Konami. They said their contract ends in December."

  • Metal Gear Online Maps and Balancing Detailed

Metal Gear Online is making a comeback with the highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Till now only a short gameplay video of Metal Gear Online existed. Recently a lot details were revealed at Metal Gear Informer. Here is what we know now:

The studio is working on ways to counter cheating

No three team modes are planned

They can’t say much about Ga-Ko and Kerotan, but added that they aren't the only mascots of the series, there will be new ones in the game

When a player leaves, the match will continue

The studio is exploring a weapon switch option outside of the d-pad

Maps are designed to be used across multiple modes

The kind of info you get during a CQC interrogation depends on the mode

The team is still having discussions about aiming, and is considering all factors (specifically talking about aim angles)

They can’t confirm right now whether there will be a beta for the game, but did note that it would ‘definitely help with feedback’ [Seems like there is a pretty good possibility there will be a beta at some point]

At launch the game won’t have more clothing options than MGO2 had when it closed, but ‘the customization is quite varied and will grow’. [That last part makes it sound like they plan to add more though DLC]

Some people seem to be concerned the game will be more like Call of Duty, but the studio assures there is no risk of that. The game was never designed to be like that

Dedicated designers and fans of previous MGO titles are working in it (among which key individuals who also worked on MGO2), and they’re listening to feedback from fans

Another things that worries some people is the leveling system, but the studio said it wouldn’t use the phrase ‘linear’ to describe progression in the game

‘Balance and sense of fun throughout are paramount to a good multiplayer experience regardless of intent’

As for the unpredictability of players, the studio said that’s a given for every multiplayer, and they try to design for both intent and contingencies

  • MGS V Voice Actress Claims Konami Did Not Fire Kojima

It was shocking indeed hearing that Hideo Kojima, along with a number of high officials, would be leaving Konami right after the release of the upcoming highly anticipated MGS V: Phantom Pain.

There was much speculation behind the cause of this including the possibility that Kojima had been fired by Konami. This was initially reveled MGS voice actress Donna Burke, who came out in twitter claiming that Kojima had been fired.  But now it seems she has taken back her claims by posting the following on Facebook:

"Konami is correct in that Kojima has not actually been fired. As I stated previously he and his team are still working hard on getting the game out. My sincere apologies to Konami, Hideo Kojima and the fans for giving the wrong impression," she said.

"I was trying to add my voice to Otsuka-san pleading with the fans to not abandon MGSV because of the stuff happening at Konami and to throw my support behind Kojima and everyone who has worked over the last five years and is working to make this game the greatest ever.

Kojima himself confirmed in a statement that he was still '100 per cent involved' in the completion of The Phantom Pain, and was 'determined to make it the greatest game I've directed to date'. So my apologies for upsetting you all."

  • Metal Gear Online To Be Unveiled

metal-gear-online-logoGeoff Keighley hinted that the highly popular MGO would resurface again in the coming month.

“Kojima will announce the next edition of Metal Gear Online during the annual Video Game Awards in early December. We don't know whether we'll see actual gameplay at the time, but we'd settle for a teaser trailer.” Geoff Keighley tweeted out, he also tweeted out that Hideo Kojima would be joining him at the game awards to premiere MGO.

MGO came bundled with Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots back in 2008. Kojima had decided to sadly shut down the servers even though millions of people were still playing it.

Metal Gear Online will be making its return alongside Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. A new trailer made a debut this weekend's PlayStation Experience event, it shows the fact that a military multiplayer game does not have to be entirely about guns. We are eagerly waiting to learn more about it.

  • MGS V: Phantom Pain - 30 Minutes of Gameplay

    2560131-maineart_high

Even though Hideo Kojima might be depressed every time he looks at Grand Theft Auto V, people are pretty darn impressed with what he has created here.

This is the first in-depth look at Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain, and it looks great. The 30 minute gameplay footage shows off a lot of the traits of the game. We get a glimpse at the story, at the dynamic weather system, different gameplay mechanics, and the smooth transition between gameplay and cinematic.

The entire footage has been recorder through the PS4 and is said to be running at 1080p at 60fps. This has for sure amped up the excitement for the game and I just can’t wait to get my hands on it. You can check out the gameplay here!

  • Hideo Kojima - Xbox One and PS4 Similar in Power

    Hideo+Kojima+Don+Mattrick+E3+Gaming+Conference+_WU0MNxDPsjl

A lot of head on head competition is to be expected between the console giants Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Both consoles are pretty much made of similar components and with similar architecture.

There are obviously some differences between the machines but the exact details are hard to speculate on since Microsoft still has not revealed the official specifications of the Xbox One yet. One bit of known difference however is that the Xbox One will be fashioning 8GB of GDDR3 RAM while PS4 will be boasting 8GB of DDR5 RAM.

Current belief is that the PS4 is generally more powerful than the Xbox One. I guess this was influenced by a recent report that Playstation 4 boasts about 50% more raw power than Xbox One. Also recently Playstation 4’s lead architect Mark Cermy detailed exactly how Sony incorporated the additional power into the PS4’s architecture.

In an interesting turn of event however, in a recent interview with 4Gamer legendary game developer Mr. Hideo Kojima mentioned quite the contrary with regard to the power difference between the PS4 and Xbox One. According to Hideo Kojima,

“The difference is small, and I don’t really need to worry about it.”

Considering all his games till now has been exclusive to Playstation, such a statement would definitely help raise bar for Xbox One, at least stop others from considering it inferior. Although due to a conflict of interest I would advise you all to take the info with a grain of salt.

As you all know Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has been set for release on both the PS4 and Xbox One. Considering that he has a lot invested on the success of his game, it is not surprising that he would like to jeopardize the success of his game on either console, especially Xbox One, by playing favorites.
