• GameStop: 'Stronger Demand' for Xbox One after Price Cut

According to GameStop there seems to be a growing interest on the Xbox One since the recent price cut. With the Kinect now being removed from the package, Xbox One consoles are being sol for $399 (the same price as Sony’s PS4).

In the recent financial earnings call Tony Bartel, GameStop president, said: "I definitely think we're already seeing in our stores [that] there's a stronger demand as a result of the price drop. The good news for us is... we'll sell a lot more units. And that means there will be more [Xbox One] units out there to put software on."

It has been over 10 days since Microsoft announced that they will be shipping the Xbox One without Kinect. The Xbox One will now be sold for £349, 399 Euros and $499 AUD from 9th June. This decision has been made supposedly due to consumer feedback but I guess anyone could’ve told Microsoft this was a good thing to do.

Although the bad side is that many of the developers were not even told about this decision and thus were left in the dark. Additional concerns regarding the future of the Kinect has also been voiced by several members in the gaming community. Since the Kinect was there with every Xbox One, there was more incentive to work on apps and features that take advantage of it. Now that might not be the case and the Kinect might again be pushed to the background.

However Phil Spencer did come forward and say that the Kinect still is important to them, "Kinect remains an important part of our vision. We will continue to innovate on Kinect. I think it's an important differentiator for us."

ps4-releaseWell we all knew that there was a huge demand for the PlayStation 4 in Europe, but enough to start a fight? Any publicity is good publicity for Sony, but they must be feeling horrible for the retail store owners.

Given that there is a huge rush for big time consumer electronics stores usually have added security in the US. However, not everyone can manage a regiment like GameStop. Thus stores in France, Germany and Austria experienced some pretty rough time.

Quote from one of the witnesses such an event, "They let them in front of the store at 5 am, crowd very calm and waiting in a nice line. When store opened at 9 am, security guards just moved aside and over 120 people rushed into the store...rushing mass overturned several shelves, throwing goods (laptops, PS3s..) on the floor...fights erupted when they grabbed all consoles and security guards had to step in."

Being a gamer I totally get the allure to a new console. If you are just dying to get your hands on one, then the idea of not being able to get one since they might get sold out might be nerve wrecking. But to lose all control and risk not only the well being off the store owners but also fellow people for the sake of a purely luxury item is beyond understanding, and is not something that should be forgiven. More means for the press to muddy the names of gamers.

Right after the GameStop expo in Las Vegas, Joystiq was able to confirm with the good people at GameStop that all their store managers will be receiving a Playstation 4! If that was not enough, they will also receive seven games upon the launch of the next generation (well now practically current generation) console!

I guess there was never a better time to be working at GameStop. No matter how cool I want to be about this, I can’t help feel a bit jealous. The news gets a bit more difficult to swallow knowing the full extent of the games that they will be able to get their hands on.

The games that they will be getting are - Battlefield 4, FIFA 14, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Madden NFL 25, NBA 2K14, Need for Speed: Rivals, and the much exalted upcoming PS3 exclusive Beyond: Two Souls.

It was mentioned that not all the games will be made available in their physical forms but some would be provided as vouchers for digital downloads, but that really doesn’t matter. On top of this there was also news that the managers would also be each receiving an Xbox One console. Talk about looking forward to an awesome holiday season!

  • “The Floodgates are Open” : Standard PlayStation 4 Consoles Sold Out at

When Sony released words to GameStop that “the floodgates are open”, they weren't kidding. Only three weeks after the fact, GameStop has been forced to tell customers that they have pretty much sold out of Sony’s next-generation console. The retail chain released a full statement:

“Due to high demand for the system, GameStop is not currently taking additional store reservations for the PlayStation 4.”

According to Playstation LifeStyle, the standard PS4 system is out of stock on GameStop’s website, although consumers can still pre-order the bundles (which has a limit of one per household).

Early adopters still has a chance of getting their hands on the PlayStation 4 early though, since there might be local brick-and-mortar GameStop locations which still have a few PS4’s left to pre-order. If you are one of the people who wants to pre-order the system, you better make a move now folks.
